Goodbye Montana

We leave Montana today. After four visits to this beautiful and magnificent state, I'm still ready to come back. But I think the next time I want it to be in the fall. I'd like to see it in the winter too bit I'm not sure I'm ready for that just yet.

Here are a few pics from yesterday. The first picture was taken when we were stopped for construction. We didn't mind getting stopped with scenery like that.

The second picture is if Hayden before he and Eric took a little hike in the snow at Logan Pass.

The last two pics I did in black and white. A storm came up as we were leaving and gave the mountains a totally different feel.

Winter in July

We are back from a day at Glacier National Park, and all I can say is that it exceeded my expectations. The Going to the Sun road was truly one of the most beautiful and breathtaking drives I've ever done. There was waterfall after waterfall and tons of snow. Yes! Snow! In July! There were people skiing in shorts!

The wildlife was also amazing. We saw a moose not long after entering the park. Then at Logan Pass we saw six big horn sheep up close and later saw six mountain goats nearby.

We also saw the stone bridge used in one of my all time favorite movies, "Forrest Gump." And yes I ran across it. Crazy I know, but something I've always wanted to do.

Goodbye Yellowstone

Today was our last full day in West Yellowstone and tomorrow we head up to Glacier National Park. We've never been to this part of Montana and are super excited.

While the big boys went flyfishing, the rest of us went to the Grizzly and Wolf Center. It was amazing to see a thousand pound grizzly bear up close and I'll be anxious to share those pics when I get back.

We went to a rodeo tonight, which was very cool and a very Montana thing to do. Rodeos here are like little league baseball back home.

I took the first picture this afternoon as I sat on the couch in the living room of our cabin. I'm really going to miss this view.

The rest of the pictures were taken by me and edited by Hayden. I think he did a fabulous job! The second picture is the view behind our cabin. The second one is of Hayden's cowboy boots. The last one is the patch of daisies in Yellowstone. Enjoy!

Horses

It was another picture perfect day in Montana. The weather is just amazing and it seems weird to be wearing jeans and jackets in the middle of July.

Eric and I started the day with a walk down the road from our cabin. There is a field of the most beautiful wildflowers, which is where the first photo was taken. Seriously, I could've spent hours in this field just taking pictures.

We all went horseback riding in Big Sky today. Hayden has been taking horseback riding lessons this summer and was so excited about the trail ride. There really aren't enough words to describe the beauty we experienced on this ride. We crossed over crystal clear streams, rode through a field of wildflowers, made our way up and around a mountain and felt like we could see forever. The only downside to this was that it was two hours and I'm not sure I will be able to get out of bed in the morning.

We ended the day with the boys fishing and all of us nearly getting eaten alive my mosquitoes. Not fun! The good thing is there was a patch of daisies right along the river. I don't think it gets much more perfect than that.

Flowers, Waterfalls and Oh a Bear

What an incredible day! The weather was absolutely perfect and we experienced a low of 55 degrees and a high in the 80s all in the spam of just a few hours.

The first picture is of Gibbon Falls. The second is of the Lower Falls, which is just about the most perfect scene you can imagine. The third picture is of the canyon wall by the Lower Falls. The colors mixed in the rock look like they were hand painted.

The fourth picture is one I absolutely love. Hayden asked if he could use my tripod to take some pictures and of course I was thrilled. He was so serious about the shots he was taking. Love it!

The last picture is of some wildflowers. This is the most wildflowers I've ever seen here before and they are vibrant and gorgeous. I loved these pink and purple ones.

We saw more wildlife today and were super lucky to see a black bear. I can officially call this trip a success since we saw it less than 50 yards away. I'm only uploading pics I took with my iPhone, so I'll post one of the bear pics when I get home.

Signs

I hear it's really hot back home in Kentucky, but as I work on this post I'm wearing long sleeves and covered up with a blanket. We actually saw snow today that still hadn't melted!

After a thunderstorm late yesterday evening we were greeted this morning by the scene in the first picture. I loved the fog and the sun shining. This was taken behind the cabin where we're staying.

I've always liked taking pictures of signs wherever I travel and came across a few good ones today. One of them shows the time for Old Faithful's next eruption. I would've included a picture of the famous geyser, but it was pouring down rain as we stood and watched.

The last picture is my favorite of the day. This is my fourth time to visit Yellowstone, and each time I'm amazed by the absolute beauty here. I wish everyone could experience Yellowstone at least once.

Time Away

I know I haven't blogged in a really long time, but as always this is my busiest time of year. After three weddings and several family and children sessions in the past month, I'm enjoying some time away in one of my favorite places...Montana!

This is the first time I've blogged on my IPhone so here goes.....
